Phone Email or Apps Not Working? Checks Before a Reset

Sort out basic iPhone and Android software problems, preserve important data and understand when guided help or physical repair is appropriate.

Check the basics without erasing anything

Restart the phone normally and try the affected task again. Compare WiFi and mobile data where your plan allows. Check available storage and whether the app has an update from the official app store. A phone that is full can struggle to update or save new items even when the network works.

    If email is the problem

Try the provider’s official webmail on a trusted device. If that works, the phone’s account configuration or app may be involved. If neither works, investigate account access or provider status. Do not remove an account until you know whether messages, contacts or notes are stored only on the device.

Keep photos and recovery options safe

Confirm which files are synced, which are independently backed up and how you would restore them. Deleting a photo in a synced library may remove it elsewhere too. Before replacing or resetting a phone, make sure you can access account recovery methods and understand how any authenticator app will move.

Know the limits of remote help

Mobile screen sharing and control vary by device and operating system. Some sessions involve guidance while you carry out steps yourself. A broken screen, damaged charging port, lost device or battery fault needs a different service. Do not expect software support to repair physical damage or bypass a device passcode.

When you enquire, include the phone type, affected app and what still works. Do not send a passcode, account password or verification code. If you think someone has accessed accounts or you have paid a scammer, use a trusted device and contact the relevant provider or bank promptly.

Menus and recovery options vary by device, account and software version. Use the manufacturer’s guidance for your setup. A guide is general information; contact us before paying if remote help may not be suitable.
